NOTE: In order to provide readers of my Blog with the most clothing options to choose from, I try out more styles than I’m personally able to buy and keep. I do my best to note which items I have personally bought. Please be aware that items with a “Buy” rating may not be ones I personally own. The “Buy” rating indicates that the clothing item passes my standards for garment fit. Additionally, there are “affiliate links” (i.e. a link with a special tracking code) in this blog post. If you purchase something via “affiliate links” on my blog, I may earn commission.

I’m so happy that you guys requested this post because it gave me the chance to discover another brand that started offering petite sizing in select styles…American Eagle! I’m pretty sure stumbled upon this by Google searching. Also I discovered that Abercrombie has petite sizing in their rompers too, but more on that later!

As much as I love rompers, the challenge I face with them is the garment proportions! When the top part fits then the bottom part is often too tight and vice versa! Basically it’s like shopping for bikinis and you’re forced to buy the same size top and bottom! (Which never works for my pear self since my bust is proportionally smaller than my hips.) If you know, then you know.

TIPS TO GUIDE YOUR SHOPPING PROCESS:

  1. Look for styles with a defined or an elastic waistband. This helps to minimize fit issues since garments are not typically designed with our pear proportions in mind.

  2. Look for styles with adjustable straps.

  3. Be prepared to order two different sizes to compare fit and decide what fit trade-offs you are willing to make!

  4. You don’t always have to shop in the petite section, if there’s a style you love in the missy/regular/plus section try it out! I generally find it’s less crucial since rompers tend to have flowy shorts on the bottom.

Keep scrolling to see all the styles that I tried in this round up!

Aerie Sunset Terry Fleece Tie Romper – Size Medium

What I loved…

  • Adjustable tie straps – The straps you can completely untie and adjust to your preference!

  • Soft fabric – If you’re looking for a comfy romper, then look no further! Just a note the material is on the thicker side, so it may not be ideal for hot summer days!

What could have been better…

  • Bust area slightly big – As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, when I go romper shopping it’s hard to find ones the that fit my proportions. I have to make a decision to either order my normal size or one size up. Often times when I order a small, the bust fits well but the hip area of the garment is too tight! (#pearproblems) So basically, there’s always a trade off I have to make. I decided to order one size up for this romper based on the body measurements on Aerie’s size chart. I’m glad I did because the hip area fit well, but the trade off was that the bust was a little big.

Garment measurements:

Bust = 39’’

Waist = 28.25’’ (elastic)

Front rise = 14’’

Inseam = 2.25’’

High point of shoulder to bottom hem = 33.25’’

Leg opening = 29.25’’

Hip = 45’’

Verdict: Buy!

American Eagle Floral Wrap-Front Romper – Size Petite Small (first three images) and Medium (last three images)

What I loved…

  • Silhouette – I love wrap style dresses so it was fun finding the romper version of this silhouette!

  • Inseam length – The romper shorts were a great length for me!

What could have been better…

  • Print – While this wasn’t my favorite print, the style worked well for me so I still wanted to share it!

SIZING NOTE: For this style I ordered both a Petite Small and Medium because I seemed to be in between sizes based on their size chart. The Petite Small fit me like a glove and looked amazing. However, the bust and waist area just fit so I’m not sure if it would be comfortable for extended wear. Although the bust area was too big on the Size Petite Medium, I preferred the looser fit up top.

Garment measurements (Size Petite Small):

Bust = 34’’

Waist = 26’’ (elastic)

Front rise = 14.625’’

Inseam = 2.125’’

High point of shoulder to bottom hem = 29.875’’

Hips = 44’’

Leg opening = 32’’

Garment measurements (Size Petite Medium):

Bust = 36.5’’

Waist = 28.5’’ (elastic)

Front rise = 15’’

Inseam = 2.125’’

High point of shoulder to bottom hem = 30.375’’

Hips = 46.5’’

Leg opening = 34.5’’

Verdict: Buy! (I recommend ordering both the your normal size and one size up so you can compare fit. If I were to buy this I would likely pick the Petite Medium since the Small fit me exactly. There was no wiggle room if my body changed.)

Abercrombie Utility Romper – Petite Small

What I loved…

  • Silhouette – This style is super versatile and minimal!

What could have been better…

  • Thin fabric – While I loved the style of this romper, I was disappointed by the fabric because it was thin. I would have preferred a thicker fabric.

  • Inseam was too short – My butt was so close to hanging out of this romper! If the inseam was just an inch longer then it would have fit me much better!

Garment measurements:

Bust = 40’’ (measured at bottom pocket flap)

Waist = 29.25’’ (elastic)

Front rise = 11.625’’

Hip = 42’’

Inseam = 2’’

High point of shoulder to bottom hem = 28.625’’

Leg opening = 28’’

Verdict: Don’t buy!

Abercrombie Wide Strap Smocked Romper – Size Petite Small

What I loved…

  • Style – This silhouette is very romantic and chic!

What could have been better…

  • Inseam was too short – Similar to the Abercrombie Utility romper, the inseam length was too short for me and barely covered my butt. So it was a dealbreaker for me!

Garment measurements:

Bust = 24’’ (elastic)

Waist = 26’’ (elastic)

Front rise = 12.75’’

Hip = 40.25’’

Inseam = 2’’

Leg opening = 28’’

Verdict: Don’t buy! (However, if you have your heart set on this style, try ordering a Size Small Regular instead. It’s possible that the inseam might be longer on the Regular sizing.)

Abercrombie Scoopneck Ruched Romper – Petite Small

What I loved…

  • Adjustable straps – Love this feature because not all rompers have it! I’ve found it’s especially necessary with my short torso!

  • Inseam length – Compared to the other two Abercrombie styles I tried, the length of these romper shorts was so much better! My butt was fully covered.

Garment measurements:

Bust = 28.75’’ (elastic)

Waist = 27.25’’

Front rise = 13.625’’

Hip = 45’’

Inseam = 2.25’’

Leg opening = 34’’

Verdict: Buy!

Gap Flutter Sleeve Romper – Size Petite Small

What I loved…

  • Color – I loved the army green color of this romper because it complimented by hair color and eyes!

  • Inseam length – The length of the romper shorts was ideal because my butt was fully covered.

What could have been better…

  • Thin fabric – While I loved the fit of this romper, I was disappointed by the material. The fabric seemed like it might wear out quickly and be prone to pilling.

Garment measurements:

Bust = 37’’

Waist = 30.75’’ (elastic)

Front rise = 13.25’’

Inseam = 3.25’’

High point of shoulder to bottom hem = 29.25’’

Hip = 48’’

Leg opening = 32.75’’

Verdict: Don’t buy!
