Living in New York, I’ve found that having a decent pair of over the knee boots is a necessity. Not only are they necessary for beating the cold, but they’re also an easy footwear option that pair well with most outfits. I will say the New Yorker in me does have a strong tendency to buy black, but hopefully you’ll spice up your wardrobe more than I do 🙂

I’ll go ahead and admit right now that I don’t have any hard and fast rules about what style boots I wear for my body type and height. At the end of the day for me, it mostly comes down to personal preference and style. However, there are still a couple of tricks that can help you look taller, which never hurts!

Just because you’re petite, doesn’t mean that you can’t rock the over the knee boots. Depending on how you style them, they can create the illusion of adding a few inches to your height. Styling can do most of the heavy lifting so don’t necessarily have to buy a heeled version. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, living in NYC means that I do a ton of walking and wearing heels is often not practical nor comfortable. Personally, I have a flat pair of over the knee boots and they are perfect for my needs.

My three favorite ways to style them are (1) pairing them with a dress or skirt that falls a couple inches above the knee, (2) wearing them with pants that match the color of the boots (3) wearing a pair of high-waisted jeans that is a contrasting color you boots.

STYLING OPTION #1:  Pairing them with a dress or skirt that falls a couple inches above the knee

Why I love this trick? By drawing attention to your legs with the over knee boots and showing a glimpse of your upper leg, it creates an elongating effect.

STYLING OPTION #2: Wearing them with pants that match the color of the boots

Ok so perhaps this trick is less fact-based, but for some reason whenever I wear black jeans or leggings with my black over the knee boots it makes me feel taller. In my defense though, I think there is something to be said for the monochrome look adding some height.

STYLING OPTION #3: Wearing a pair of high-waisted jeans that is a contrasting color compared to your boots

Too further create the illusion of height, I wore a cropped length top with my high-waisted jeans. That way you could see more of the jean.
