Now that many of us are working from home for the first time we are trying to figure out what the heck we should even wear. Over the last two years, I’ve worked from home sporadically and I know that it’s a tricky thing to navigate. On one hand you want to be comfortable, but on the other hand you don’t want to be so comfortable all you want to do is going back to bed. In today’s post, I’m sharing four outfit ideas that will help you be in ‘work mode’, but are also freaking comfortable at the same time!
OUTFIT IDEA #1: T-SHIRT & PAPER-BAG PANTS
I have a feeling you’re probably skeptical of this one, but hear me out as I have put this to the test! Paper bag pants are the perfect thing to wear because they’re a little more polished than sweats. They make me feel dressed up and ready to ‘get into the zone’. Most importantly though they are also super comfortable — most styles are made of a lightweight crepe fabric that moves nicely. Since they are often made of soft fabric, they lend themselves well to sitting down for hours on end! The paper bag pants I’m wearing here are from Topshop (I bought them ~5 years ago) but I linked to some similar styles that you can shop here.
OUTFIT IDEA #2: TANK TOP, DUSTER AND LEGGINGS
While getting dressed up can help you feel more productive, don’t beat yourself up if you want to wear leggings. If you opt to wear leggings (I do as well) try wearing a fun color to boost your mood. Also I recommend pairing your leggings back to semi-“real” clothes up top because it makes you feel like you are in work mode. My take on this look was wearing my matcha green Athleta leggings with a simple tank and duster sweater (link to similar). If you’re looking for petite-friendly leggings like these then check out my post from earlier this year.
OUTFIT IDEA #3: OVERSIZED SWEATER AND JEANS
It probably depends on what part of the country you are in for this one! In New York it’s still a bit cool outside and I like to be cozy so I’ve often been wearing a sweater and jeans. Comfort is important so I recommend wearing either an oversized or a chunky sweater! When it comes to jeans, try wearing a pair with plenty of stretch or jeggings. I’m wearing my American Eagle Super Curvy High Rise jeggings here which I love because they are comfy enough to sit down in all day. Read the full review of them here.
OUTFIT IDEA #4: PRINTED T-SHIRT & JOGGERS
When I wear joggers, I prefer to pair them back to a fun t-shirt that has a print or unique detail! That’s because I find wearing a complete matching sweatsuit signals to my brain “relaxation mode”. When you mix and match your sweats back to other items in your closet, it gives your outfit a little boost. So your brain is saying “I’m comfortable, but I know it’s time to get sh*t done.” (Fun fact I’m actually wearing men’s joggers here from Uniqlo! You can shop these exact ones plus read about my other favorite petite-friendly lounge pants here.)
Before I wrap up, I wanted to share a few final thoughts. Confession — I don’t perfectly adhere to these outfit ideas all day everyday. Sometimes, I’ll wear my PJs in the morning and then change at lunch time. Other days, I’ll get super dressed up and do my hair, makeup and the whole shebang. However, in general I make a point to put on real clothes or some sort of outfit during the day to feel more productive. What I hope you will take away from this is there is no right or wrong. It’s all about figuring out what makes you feel your best while working!
